How fast is your internet?

For most households, 25–100 Mbps download is enough for HD streaming, video calls and browsing. 4K streaming and multiple devices at once benefit from 100+ Mbps. Online gaming cares more about low ping (under 50ms) than raw speed.

Ping is the time it takes for a signal to travel to a server and back, measured in milliseconds — lower is better, especially for gaming and video calls. Jitter is how much that ping time varies between requests; high jitter causes choppy calls even if your average ping looks fine.

Most home internet plans (especially cable and DSL) are asymmetric by design — they allocate far more bandwidth to downloads than uploads, since most usage is streaming and browsing rather than sending large files or hosting video calls.

Results depend on network congestion, Wi-Fi interference, how many devices are active on your network, and the load on the test server itself. Running the test a few times, ideally on a wired connection, gives the most reliable picture.
